What this image compressor does
Large photos are slow to upload, hard to email and expensive to store. This tool re-encodes your image with smarter settings so the file becomes much smaller while it still looks the same on screen. It supports JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, and it can also read iPhone HEIC photos.
Unlike most online compressors, Anubis Image never sends your picture to a server. The compression runs inside your browser, so private photos such as IDs, receipts or family pictures stay on your device.
Quality mode or target-size mode
Quality mode gives you direct control. A value around 75–85% is the sweet spot for photos: files are typically 50–80% smaller and the difference is hard to see. Go lower for thumbnails and higher for prints.
Target-size mode is for forms and portals that say “maximum 200 KB”. Choose 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB or enter your own number. The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits, and only reduces the dimensions if the limit cannot be met otherwise.
You can also set a maximum width, for example 1920 px, to shrink very large camera photos at the same time.
Which format should I choose?
- JPG — best for photographs; opens everywhere.
- WebP — usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same look; supported by all modern browsers.
- AVIF — often the smallest, offered only when your browser can create it.
- PNG — best for screenshots and graphics with sharp edges or transparency. PNG is lossless by nature, so the tool reduces the number of colors when you lower the quality.
Not sure? Keep “Same as original”, or try WebP for web use.
Limits and tips
- Each image can be up to 100 MB on a computer and 30 MB on a phone.
- If a file is already well optimized, the tool keeps your original instead of making it bigger.
- Photos are scaled down only if they exceed what your device’s memory can safely handle, and you are told when that happens.
- For images that will be printed, keep quality at 90% or higher.
Is it private?
Yes. The page loads the tool code once, then compresses your files locally using your browser’s own image engine. No upload happens, which also means it keeps working fast on slow connections. Read more on our privacy page.
