Format guide

FormatBest forTransparency
JPGPhotos, maximum compatibilityNo
PNGScreenshots, logos, sharp graphicsYes
WebPWebsites — small filesYes
AVIFSmallest files, modern browsersYes

Transparent images to JPG

JPG cannot store transparency. When you convert a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG, the transparent areas are filled with the color you choose (white by default) instead of turning black.

AVIF availability

Creating AVIF files depends on your browser. When your browser can encode AVIF, the option appears automatically; otherwise it is hidden so you never get an error.
